Ah, going to the movies with the kids. You take a mortgage out on the house to pay for the tickets and the popcorn just to sit down and watch a film that you figure is going to feel only slightly better than stabbing yourself in the temple with a fork. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it? The filmmakers fortunately understand this. They know that if they don’t put at least something in a children’s movie for us adults to appreciate, we’d never take our kids to watch them.
And so in some cases you can find brilliant humour. Disney and Pixar have it down to a science, as well as Dreamworks with the Shrek series. I mean seriously, how can you not laugh at this?
What are some of your favourite “adult” moments in movies made for kids?

I like the part in Toy Story where little bo peep says ” why dont I have someone else watch the sheep tonight?” LOL… PIxar is def. the best at these moments! It makes being forced to pay a fortune to watch a cartoon movie when there is a really great movie you would love to see right down the hall a little easier. sigh… kids.

Yep, kids and the things we do for ’em, eh? There was a really hilarious part in Toy Story 3 as well that I can’t recall… had something to do with Barbie and Ken. I should look it up.

I prefer Pixar over Disney sooo often. Maybe because of that very thing. Plus, I always love the shorts in front of Pixar films. I didn’t/don’t take my kids to see any movies I didn’t/don’t want to see. Sometimes The Mister does, tho. I think it’s bad enough to have them on the tv for free. We just went to see The Second Best Marigold Hotel, since the first one is a family fave. It was a matinee and for four of us, it was $61. Then, refreshments, haha! Anyway, we don’t go often, lol! Sassy now wants to see Insurgent and Moo wants to see Home — maybe their daddy will take em.

Pixar Shorts are the best, aren’t they? I just saw The Second Best Marigold Hotel a couple of weeks ago and I loved it! Haven’t seen the first one yet, but I’m gonna look for it.

In the movie “Cars” Mater tells everyone that Doc won 3 Piston Cups. Another car spits oil and asks in shock, “He did WHAT in his cup?” I’m a big fan of Pixar and Dreamworks.

Aren’t we lucky to get to watch these movies over and over again? I must have seen “Shrek” 800 times – I never get tired of looking for something new in it.

I vote for what all you said in this post. Thumbs Up to the Video Clip. Watching Shrek 800 times is great. But I really do not know what that is, you know geographically I am far away from that.
Making Movies is great really. How much of stuff they have to search and research, its commendable.

I love Pixar movies even though they are for kids they almost always make me cry. The first ten minutes of UP?! Ripped my guts out. Just as good as any “adult” movie.

This is nothing compared to the scene where Lord Farquaad gets a boner under the sheets…and they show it moving the fabric as it grows.
Seriously, hit that rewind button. Right after he forces the Magic Mirror to show him Princess Fiona one more time, he says, “She’s perfect,” and then his penis agrees. He suddenly becomes embarrassed and pulls the bed linens towards his chest to hide it.
Disney is like a child molester in a Santa Clause outfit.

Shrek is Dreamworks, actually, but I like your analogy nonetheless. I’d forgotten about Farquaad’s bedroom scene. There’s a joke most people over the age of eleven would get.

There have been so many moments but I don’t remember them all in a way I can share. What I do get a kick out of is sitting with my children, now 22, 20, and 17, and discussing all the adult things they have noticed about movies they loved when they were younger.

Yep, I often do that with my 20 year old. He’s constantly amazed at what he missed. Makes me laugh. 🙂

I really enjoyed the documentary “This Film Is Not Yet Rated”. it’s a piece on the inconsistencies of the MPAA (Motion PIcture Association of America) and its flawed rating system. the film’s reluctance to touch much on NATO (National Association of Theatre Owners) was slightly disappointing. but overall, it was neat.
